MDC claims more intimidation in Zimbabwe

By a Correspondent

AS tensions worsen in Zimbabwe, the Movement for Democratic Change says an armed gang tried to abduct its security administrator in central Harare on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe’s unity government is on the verge of disintegration after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai pulled his ministers out of cabinet meetings.

This attempted attack will bring back memories of the kidnappings of rights activist Jestina Mukoko and MDC officials in the months before the unity government was sworn in.

There has been no confirmation from police but the MDC put out a press statement detailing the attack.

Edith Mashayire, the MDC’s security administrator, said she was driving through central Harare when four men in a grey Isuzu twin cab suddenly blocked her way.

She said they produced guns and told her she was under arrest.

Mashayire screamed and a crowd gathered - the men got back into their car and sped off.

Incidents like this have got many thinking Zimbabwe is sliding backwards into the days of fear.
