The Evolution of Indian Saree to an International Clothing Style

Indian women, as a part of the East Asian continent and being diversified in tradition, have revealed and found an extraordinary grace in their Indian sarees. Indian saree (often called six yard wonder) are the most commonly worn cultural attire in India and can be worn in a variety of styles. The most common style for wearing a Saree is by wrapping the attire around the waist and having one end then covering in folds over the shoulder by keeping the midriff bare.

In the fashion industry, Indian patch work sarees have become very prominent. The pattern of wearing dresses changes frequently and this dressing style is no different. It has evolved in style and class over the past decades. In fact, there are many different ways and styles of wearing the attire all over the East Asian continent. Some of the most remarkable styles are; The Nivi style, Bengali and Oriya style, Gujarati style, Kashtha style, Tribal style and Dravidian style. The styles also differ according to countries and regions in Eastern Asia as well as out of the region in places like New York and London where women are more stylish and classic in dressing.

The Indian sarees is derived from three specific and different regions, notably Varanasi well known for its culture and music in Northern India, Chanderi in Central India and Kanchenjunga in Southern India. According to fashion gurus, The stylish as well as traditional dressing attire can be worn with of tops, skirts, jeans, trousers so as too make it more smart and less bulky, as well as to get an attractive, diversified and classic look.

The Indian film Industry is usually accredited for taking the popularity of the once traditional and cultural dressing style to another level worldwide. Indian movies are viewed worldwide especially in the US and in the UK and by conceptualizing beautiful women in movies adorn with this dressing style, it has ultimately gotten the attention and focus of international fashion enthusiasts. In recent years this style has therefore become one of the most desired fashion wear for its sophistication and royalty. One of the arguing facts about the success of the Indian saree in the international market is that the techniques involved in wearing it are a little bit perculia, as such people of the western world are not quite familiar with it. According to many exporters this famous Indian attire might not be successful in business enterprise due to price sensitivity and options availability. Because of these reasons, there is a need for experimentation with western attires for ease of wear and practicality in the market. The good news however is that in recent years and in the global market, creative designers have launched easy-to-wear Indian Sarees and the new trend is more than appreciated and is being adopted widely. At this point, if these trends continues, this glorious Indian attire might be in threat to lose its originality whilst gaining international recognition and appreciation.

For many years Indian Sarees have been casual clothing or regular household 3clothing for typical Indian women but at present the scenario is different. Most popular Hollywood celebrities and actresses merrily wear their  Indian saree in special events. For example the Pussycat Dolls were dressed in Indian saree at the “Annual Fashion Rocks concert” in New York. The International Fashion world have open their heart to this traditional Indian clothing widely. After many decades, Indian sarees have not only gained popularity internationally, but have also evolved to an international clothing style.
